One dead, 3 injured in a deadly road accident at Ol Kalou

One person has succumbed to injuries while three others are receiving treatment at J.M. Memorial Hospital after a lorry they were ferrying stones with crashed at Ol Kalou town.

Joseph Kariuki Kamau, 23, succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment.

The lorry, KBL 407W Nissan UD driver, John Muikia Kamau 26, sustained head injuries. The other occupant, Benson Komo Njambi, 24, got both right hand and leg fractured, while Joshua Kariuki Ng’ang’a, 34, sustained facial injuries.

The four were coming from Ol Kalou town quarry carrying hardcore destined for Kasuku township in Ol Joro Orok, when the accident occurred a few metres from Ol Kalou slaughter house along Vatican-Town road.

Nyandarua Central Sub County Police Commander, Leonard Kimaiyu, said the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp corner up a steep hill. It hit two vehicles which were parked on the road, a Toyota Sienta KBU 437 K, and a Toyota RAV4 with foreign registration number SSD 531B, before crashing into a ditch on the left.

He said the driver will be interrogated when he gains coherence to ascertain what really transpired.

Eye witnesses said the lorry was driving at high speed down the slope which leads to the hill just as one passes Ol Kalou slaughter house, but lost control while the driver, apparently, maintained the same speed while negotiating the corner at the hill.
