Governor Wairuru has started a water project worth sh. 60 million. About 6,000 households in Mwea sub-county have benefited from a water project initiated by the county. The project, whose waters are drawn from River Nyamindi, includes a chlorine treatment plant with the capacity of 22,500 litres.
Speaking after commissioning the Sh60 million project, Governor Anne Waiguru said the clean water would put an end to waterborne diseases.”Mwea residents who have for many years been affected by bilharzia, diarrhoea and other water-borne have now a sigh of relief since the occurrence of this diseases
She added: “From the high rise tank the water then flows freely through gravity to the entire town and its environs right to Wamumu village where the consumers are expected to each install a tap within the respective homestead”.The governor said the project which will cover
Later Waiguru proceeded to Marurumo village where she donated water storage tanks to the area residents. The 1000 beneficiaries will be required to store the clean water from the project which the governor commissioned yesterday. The tanks with a capacity of 1000 litres were distributed to the residents by the county government which Waiguru said was only phase One.
“During the phase Two, my government will ensure each more families receives these which other than storing the drinking water will also be used to raise poultry and improve the livelihoods of the residents through a programme dubbed ‘Weshesha Kirinyaga’,” she said. While at Marurumo village Waiguru urged political leaders to unite and forge a common front for the sake of development.
