One publication recently showed that the likes of Manchester City and arch-rivals Arsenal both had teething problems at their new grounds when they first moved in, whilst West Ham United and Southampton continue to have a mixed bag of results.
As such, a new stadium appears to have a negative effect on clubs to begin with, with teams suffering huge dips in form and coming away worse for wear than they were in the previous season.
The correlation between the four clubs previously mentioned is uncanny, with the quartet all picking up fewer points in their debut season at home from the previous year and the timing for Tottenham could not have been worse.
With the position they are currently in, Spurs can not afford to suffer the ‘curse’ and they have some matches that will really test their resolve. With fixtures against Crystal Palace, Brighton and Hove Albion, West Ham and Everton all to come in the new stadium, and the current form they are in, they might have been better off trying to stay at Wembley for a little longer.
With Mauricio Pochettino’s side deep in a battle for the top four and looking to book a place in the Champions League semi-final, a move to their new home could be considered a really risky piece of business.
If the slump was to continue for them, Spurs could actually end up out of Europe’s elite competition altogether, as they may not progress this year or even qualify for it next year with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all on their tails.
