Sad tale of Githurai tout who was brutally murdered by his inlaws!

A Githurai matatu tout lost his life after his college girlfriend and her mother hired a gang to “discipline” him, a Nyeri Court heard on Thursday.

According to the investigating officer, Mr Dennis Okumu was lured by his girlfriend Esther Wambui to Karatina where he met his death.

Corporal Eliud Odhiambo told the court that Ms Wambui, a student at Utalii College, held a grudge against Okumu over physical abuse and had intended to have him roughed up to get back at him.

“The mother, who works at a Karatina hospital, confessed to the crime.

“The deceased had taken supper at his in-laws’ home and was killed while being escorted to where he was to sleep.

“The family had hired five assailants to discipline the deceased but it turned tragic and they ended up killing him,” Corporal Odhiambo told the court.S

Okumu’s body was found at Kirimara in Mathira East sub-county with his eyes gouged out and a number of stab wounds to the neck. The Utalii College girl and the tout have one child together.

A boda boda operator identified as Mr Muriuki was allegedly paid Sh3,000 to dump the body.

Wambui’s mother, however, claimed that the money sent to Muriuki was payment for books that had been taken at his shop.

According to close confidants of the tout, Mr Okumu had been attacked one other time at his girlfriend’s house in Zimmerman.

“On February 1, 2018 Dennis came to the Githurai bus stage wearing a hoodie because he had a head injury.

“He told us he had been attacked by thugs at his girlfriend’s house in Zimmerman. He said he was hit on the head with a log of wood and fell unconscious,” a fellow tout, George Otieno testified in court.
