Lawyer Nelson Havi has in his court battle with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) beefed up his defense by hiring a group of renowned and reputable advocates, including Senior Counsel James Orengo.
With Senator Orengo’s work well known in his representation of opposition leader Raila Odinga that led to one of the first ever cancelled general elections in the continent, the rest of Havi’s lawyers are not small fish either.
Havi, who is also a ‘learned friend’ himself revealed on Twitter Senior Counsel Omogeni, Dr Khaminwa, Prof Sihanya, Soweto, Awele, Ochiel, Obae, Rene, Bob and Nyawira who are also backing him in his court battle.
Omogeni SC is a former President of the Law Society of Kenya, and was in 2012 named Senior Counsel by then President Mwai Kibaki. He is known for formerly representing some of the Pangani Six from the Cord coalition at the Milimani law courts in Nairobi following their arrest over hate speech.
Dr John Khaminwa was also poised to be made Senior Counsel, albeit he was not selected. He founded one of the most reputable law firms in Kenya- Khaminwa and Khaminwa Advocates.
With the three already being reputable advocates, there is no doubt that Havi’s group of all eleven lawyers have him armed to the teeth, waiting for DPP to state its case.
The lawyer is accused of attacking the DPP on social media without facts or evidence.
It is however said that the guilty ones are always the ones who hire the toughest defense. hat do you think? Guilty or innocent?
