DCI demands peanuts from Nairobi county corruption suspects behind ‘jackpot’ size saga

Two employees of Nairobi City County Government Charged with corruptly soliciting a bribe of Sh 165,000, receiving bribe of sh 80, 000 and conspiracy to commit an offence were found guilty by a Nairobi court and each fined total of sh 210,000 or 24 months jail.

According to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP),Pius Makari and David Oketch were each charged with four counts of corruption and were found guilty of three counts and were each fined sh 80,000 or 9 months imprisonment for receiving bribe and conspiracy to commit an offence and sh 50,000 or 6 months imprisonment for count

The two were however acquitted on the count of soliciting a bribe.

How is this a deterrent? The fine should by no less than 20 times what the bribe amount is! This is a joke! But good work @ODPP_KE— Kenyan Musings (@kenyanmusings) March 26, 2019
