Dr. Dre on the spot over daughter’s enrollment

The legendary lyricist Andre Romelle Young aka Dr. Dre took to social media to celebrate his daughter’s acceptance into the prestigious University of South California.

He was later forced to eat his words after his motives for a philanthropic act are questioned.

Sharing the proud moment online, he posted “My daughter got accepted into USC all on her own. No jail time!!!!” This controversial caption led many to think he may have hit out at celebrity parents who are currently embroiled in college admission bribery charges.

According to The Daily Mail, among those arrested were actress Lori Loughlin and her designer husband Mossimo Giannulli who is accused of paying $500,000 to get their two daughters into USC as fake rowing recruits

According to CNN, Dre’s comment was a thinly veiled reference to the college admissions scandal in which dozens of parents are facing federal charges after accusations they cheated to get their children accepted to prestigious schools, including USC.

However, his proud moment was quickly questioned as trolls online unearthed information indicating Young made a large donation to the liberal arts college just years ago. According to a statement from USC in 2013, Andre Young known also known as Dr. Dre made a sizeable grant that would have many questioning how much work his daughter truly put in to get into the elite education institution.

The statement read, “Entrepreneurs and music industry icons Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre (Andre Young), already known as forward-thinking visionaries in music and business, are giving $70 million to the University of Southern California to create a unique undergraduate experience.”

“The duo’s gift will establish the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation, an exceptional environment for those rare undergraduate students whose interests span fields such as marketing, business entrepreneurship, computer science and engineering, audio and visual design and the arts. This program will prepare them to become a new generation of inspired innovators.”

Dr. Dre and his daughter have since deleted the celebratory posts.

Starting out in the mid-1980s, Compton rapper Dr. Dre is known his lyricism and skill as a rapper. Now an entrepreneur, he founded the million dollar company Beats by Dre. Apart from his $70M donation to USC, Dr. Dre continues to invest in educational institutions.
