Namibian President Hage Geingob on Thursday gifted Uhuru Kenyatta with an award.

The award titled – the Grand Master of the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis, was presented to him for his contribution to democracy and good governance.

Addressing Namibia’s 29th Independence Anniversary Celebrations, Uhuru went to make an impassioned speech in which he called for more collaboration within African states.

“Borders must never be used as an excuse for us to retract back and forget the African spirit of Ubuntu. We remain stronger together,” he said.

The Kenya president was a chief guest at the Independence Stadium in capital city Windhoek during celebrations to mark Namibia’s 29th Independence Day.

He went on to affirm Kenya’s close ties with Namibia, that stretched back to the days of the struggle for independence in which Kenyan forces formed part of the United Nations Transition Assistance Group (UNTAG).

“Our shared values and aspirations and our enduring strong historical bonds of brotherhood have continued to grow from strength to strength,” said President Kenyatta.

Uhuru is expected to meet several Kenyans who are living and working in Windhoek during his state visit.

The Kenyan president will be officially received at State House, Windhoek, on Friday by President Geingob.

President Uhuru made the trip in the company of his daughter, Ngina Kenyatta as and his Cabinet secretaries among them Mwangi Kiunjuri of Agriculture, James Macharia of Transport, and Peter Munya of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.

His trip to Namibia, however, did not excite Kenyans who cited that his people are dying of hunger while he is celebrating in Namibia.
