There were some light moments at Mlimani court in Nairobi on Thursday when a Ugandan man aged 72 narrated to the court on how he was introduced to partying while studying in the US many years ago.

The Ugandan, Sebowa Kiboigo, was arraigned on charges of failing to pay Ksh26, 900 he owed Kenya Comfort Hotel after seeking accommodation at the facility.

Kiboigo was in the company of his 20-year-old nephew, Mathias Magemeso, when he committed the offense on March 9, 10, 18 and 19, 2019.

The two “falsely pretended that their money was in Ugandan currency, and they needed time to exchange it into Kenyan currency, a fact they knew was false”, the court heard.

The two pleaded guilty to the offense and were fined Ksh20, 000 each or a jail term of 6 months each.

However, before their ruling was delivered by Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko, Kiboigo treated the newsroom to a moment of chest-thumping and a glimpse of his “rich academic history”.
