Our very own Lupita Nyong’o now a holly wood star was once again a cast in a powerful but horror movie that was scary enough to prevent her own mother from watching the daughters movie despite all efforts by Lupita to persuade her.
In the movie, a family of four, the Wilsons, are confronted by monster versions of themselves.
Lupita’s role is being a mother of two by the name Adelaide Wilson as well as a scarier version of the same character called Red.
She revealed that playing both roles took a very heavy toll on her emotionally.
During a separate interview with BBC, Lupita told journalists that to make Red sound distinctive, she had to mimic a voice condition called spasmodic dysphonia.
“It’s a condition that’s brought about by trauma, sometimes emotional, sometimes physical and sometimes inexplicable.
“It’s where your vocal cords start to spasm and they create this irregular abrupt pattern of air,” she explained.
For the film, Lupita met people with the condition and worked with a voice therapist to make sure she didn’t damage her vocal cords.
