Who will end Gor Mahia’s dominance in the Kenyan Premier League?

Bandari FC shockingly lost to Sony Sugar in the Kenyan Premier League on Wednesday to leave their title challenge in doubts as the fell down to third on the log with 32 points. Sofapaka are the leaders with 33 points while defending champions Gor Mahia are second with 32 points despite playing three matches less!

The lack of competition for Gor Mahia at the top end of the table has been present for the past few years and that was illustrated when K’Ogallo won the league unbeaten in 2015. To put it in sharper focus, the record Champions have won the league in three of the past 4 seasons and judging by the way thins are going this season, they look destined to add yet another league title come May.

This season had promised to offer a bit of competition and entertainment in in regards to the title race when Bandari FC enjoyed a storming start to the season and led the table while Gor Mahia had the most unconvincing of starts to a league campaign in 6 years. Sofapaka may yet give Tuyisenge and company a run for their money but anything their than a Gor Mahia triumph will be viewed as a shock. Why is it that Gor Mahia enjoy such dominace over the Kenya Premier League?

For starters the club is head and shoulders the best managed team in the land and that translates onto the pitch. Gor Mahia have slowly rebuild their club over the course of the past few seasons and now attract the best talents not only in Kenya but also from the region and beyond.

Despite a few hitches here and there, Ambrose Rachier and company always put the team’s interests at heart leading to very well taken care of playing and coaching staff who in turn give everything to ensure that their fans almost always go home with a smile on their faces.

Progression into the quarter finals of the CAF considerations cup points to Gor Mahia finally being ready to conquer the continent. Can other Kenyan clubs follow suit and build teams that will become successful on the pitch and as brands? That remains to be seen but until it happens, K’Ogallo’s dominance in the league is set continue.
