Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has defended Raheem Sterling over media coverage of his record at Manchester City.

Sterling has taken a stand against the media this season for how they report his lifestyle and that of other black players compared to white players, and received widespread praise for his comments.

After an incident of alleged racial abuse in City’s defeat at Chelsea in December, Sterling posted two headlines of City teammates Phil Foden and Tosin Adarabioyo buying houses. Foden was praised, while Adarabioyo was questioned for his extravagance.

And Pogba has praised Sterling for speaking out, and said his performances for City deserve more credit.

When asked if he feels the media treats black players differently, Pogba told Sky Sports: “Sometimes it happens.

“I think Raheem Sterling, with all the stats from last year and everything he’s done nobody talks about it like we should.

“He has ridiculous stats, he’s scored goals and made a hat-trick not long ago. He’s been top with City.

“What I’ve been seeing is he’s been criticised for houses and what I’ve been hearing things about, but nobody talks about what he’s been doing on the pitch.

“Maybe if he was somebody else, it would be different.”

Pogba continued, saying there is no place for racism in football.

“I always say racism in football shouldn’t happen, because football is a sport, a beautiful sport and makes people happy,” he said.

“When somebody is doing a great job, he should deserve the same reward as somebody else who does the same job.”
