When one appears before a judge it is never a moment to be happy as the jitters in one stomach cause an uneasiness only the person behind the dock can fully explain. This was however not the case for a Ugandan Man who had failed to settle a hotel bill and he surely made all those present in the court room in Milimani laugh their worries away.

A 72-year-old Ugandan man left a Milimani courtroom in hysterics Thursday, when he narrated how he was introduced to partying while studying in the US many years ago. The Ugandan, Sebowa Kiboigo, was arraigned on charges of failing to pay Ksh26,900 he owed Kenya Comfort Hotel after seeking accommodation at the facility.

Kiboigo was in the company of his 20-year-old nephew, Mathias Magemeso, when he committed the offense on March 9, 10, 18 and 19, 2019.

The two “falsely pretended that their money was in Ugandan currency, and they needed time to exchange it into Kenyan currency, a fact they knew was false”, the court heard.

The two pleaded guilty to the offense and were fined Ksh20, 000 each or a jail term of 6 months each.  However, before their ruling was delivered by Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko, Kiboigo treated the newsroom to a moment of chest-thumping and a glimpse of his “rich academic history”.
