Will President Uhuru see to Judge Jackton Ojwang’s Supreme Court exit over alleged corruption case?

Supreme Court Judge Jackton Ojwang is on the verge of being axed from the bench of seven top judges in the country after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) recommended for his removal for gross misconduct during a murder case involving Migori governor Okoth Obado. The JSC directed that President Uhuru Kenyatta establishes a tribunal to investigate Ojwang for corruption and abuse of office.

According to sources, the Commission on Tuesday, March 19, established that Justice Ojwang allegedly benefited from the construction of a road leading to his rural house in Migori County in return for a favourable ruling involving the murder case that implicated the governor.

The JSC noted the judge also declined to appear in person before the commission, a move commissioners concluded as disrespectful.

Upon receiving the report, the president will form a tribunal to further investigate the Judge and if found capable, the Head of State will be obliged to axe him from the bench.

Obado was accused of aiding and abetting commission of the murder of Sharon Atieno, a university student turned governor’s lover, between September 3 and September 4, 2018. He was released on a cash bail of KSh 5 million pending further investigations into the matter. The recommendation for removal of Ojwang came just a week after JSC received a petition seeking the removal of four Supreme Court judges in which Ojwang was as well implicated for allegedly violating the Constitution during the Wajir gubernatorial petition.
