With all the drama surrounding him, R.Kelly tried to reach our to his eldest daughter Joan Kelly.The daughter which he could not support financially.
Kelly has recently paid a six-figure sum in missing child support payments, has continued with his overtures to Joann by posting a video of him singing Happy Birthday to her, for her 21st.
He told his estranged daughter, which he shares with ex-wife Drea Kelly, that “I love you… no matter what, I love you so much,” while singing the traditional birthday ditty.
It may take a little more than this impromptu public display of affection towards his daughter, who performs under the stage name Buku Abi, after she labelled her father a ‘monster’ following the damning documentary Surviving R Kelly detailed his catalogue of abuses against young women.
Joann told her Instagram followers: “To the people who feel that I should be speaking up against everything is going on right now.
“I just want you all to understand that devastated is an understatement for what I feel currently. I do apologize if my silence to all that is happening comes off as careless. That is my last intention. I pray for all the families & [women] who have been affected by my father’s actions. Trust, I have been deeply affected by all of this.”
She continued with a damning verdict on her father, writing: “The same monster you all confronting me about is my father. I am well aware of who and what he is. I grew up in that house.
“I pray anyone who reads this understands I put nothing but good intent behind each word. It took me nearly 3 days to write this.
“I just want everyone to know that I do care and I love you all. This is a very difficult subject to speak on… again, I apologize if my words don’t come out right. .”
Joann goes on to explain that she’s estranged from her father and does not speak about him or on his behalf. She said she’s still processing all that’s happening, but decided to post on Instagram because “things are starting to get out of hand.”
Speaking on Good Morning Britain previously, Joann said: “It’s been extremely hard not only because of my relation with my father and all the things going on but just as a black woman in the industry. That makes it extremely hard.
“To put everything else on top of it makes it extremely difficult for me and my siblings. A lot of people don’t know how to separate his family from the things that he has going on in his life.
“My siblings and I work very hard and diligently to make sure we do this on our own.”
On using a stage name, she said: “I absolutely did it on purpose. I’ve gotten suggestions about using my last name in my career and it would hep me a lot.
“I wanted people to know i have my own identity. I am my own person. My last name has nothing to do with who I am at heart.
“We don’t want people to know that we’re just R Kelly’s kids. We’re more than that.”
