When word went round that renowned Lawyer Assa Nyakundi had accidentally shot his own son to death, Kenyans were take a back as to just how that was possible.
Many theories were come up with. Some Kenyans said that the lawyer might have killed his son on purpose while others argued that the shooting might have been ocassioned by some spiritual ties.
Well, this is Kenya and such theories will always come out after such a gruesome incident.
The name Nyakundi is not a new one in the Kenyan legal circles.
This is a man who just like Lawyer Cliff Ombeta, has taken us some serious cases that revolve around murder, economic crimes and fraud.
A Look at the cases handled by Nyakundi paint the picture of a man who will do anything to help cover up dirty business as long as money trickles into his accounts.
Do you remember the gruesome murder of Lawyer Robert Chesang? The lawyer who was brutally murdered at his matrimonial home in Lukenya, Machakos County?
Well, it now emerges that Nyakundi is the defence lawyer for Nyeri senior resident magistrate Pauline Chesang, who has been charged with the murder of Chesang, her husband who was killed on February 17th.
Nyakundi is also representing a number of suspects in the National Youth Service scandal II case.
The National Youth Service (NYS) was hit by a new Sh10.5 billion scandal, dealing a fresh blow to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s fight against corruption.
The money was allegedly siphoned from the institution in the last three years, according to multiple sources, in a well-orchestrated scheme involving senior government officials and ghost suppliers.
Apart from the NYS season 2 Case, Lawyer Nyakundi is also the head of controversial Pastor James Nganga’s defence team.
Nyakundi defended Nganga from murder charges when the Pastor was accused of killing a motorist while driving his Range Rover.
It was alleged that the Neno Evangelism Centre pastor had been driving Range Rover Sport KCD 060Q on August 26, 2015 when he collided head-on with Nissan March KBZ 709W, leading to Mercy Njeri’s death.
The accident took place at Manguo area on Naivasha-Nakuru highway.
The pastor,his driver Simon Kuria and police officers Patrick Baya and Christopher Nzioka faced several charges following the death that resulted from dangerous driving.
Well, the above three cases are just a tip of the iceberg. Lawyer Nyakundi has handled more serious cases than these three.
Could it be that his efforts to help cover crime came back to haunt him? Well, i am not a judge neither am i God.
The lawyer has meanwhile been admitted to hospital after he fell ill. He had been detained at the police station, pending investigations into his son’s death.
