Dutch police have named the suspect in the Utrecht attack as Gokman Tanis as police continue to hunt for the gunman. Cops have urged the public not to approach Turkish-born Tanis and released a CCTV picture of him standing on a tram.
Tanis was named by police after a suspected terrorist attack on a tram in Utrecht – in which one person was killed. Dutch police are trying to put together exactly what happened amid reports of multiple shootings following the attack on the tram. Mosques and schools have been placed on lockdown and the terror alert level raised to critical for the north of the Netherlands.
“We ask you to watch out for 37-year-old Gokman Tanis, born in Turkey, in connection with this morning’s incident. Do not approach him,” a police statement said. Witnesses reported seeing a “confrontation” on the tram before the shooting started.
