Kenyan Doctor dies in Cuba

The Ministry of Health, the County Government of Mombasa and Juma’s family have today announced the death of Dr. Hamisi Ali Juma in Havana, Cuba on the 17th of March 2019.

Dr. Juma was one of the 50 Kenyan doctors in Cuba sponsored by the Government Of Kenya to study Family Medicine as a specialization under the framework of the MOU between Kenya and Cuba.

The Ministry of health also shared their condolences to the family of the deceased and assured them that plans are already in place to transport the body back to Kenya within the shortest time possible.

The Ministry of health also noted that their Kenyan Embassy in Havana is working closely with the Cuban authorities in handling this case.

According to the statement, the circumstances resulting in the death are not clear yet as investigations by the Cuban authorities are ongoing.

The Ministry of health has also urged Kenyans especially his fellow student colleagues in Cuba to be sensitive to the grieving family and refrain from discussing the case on social or regular media as they await the full police report on the case.

They also reiterated that they shall oblige by the family’s request that information shall be shared with the family first once the investigation report is ready.
