Here’s the point Most Kenyans missed as they reacted to Dp Ruto’s ‘Absolute’ Computers

Deputy President William Ruto over the weekend came under heavy criticism from internet users after Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen posted pictures of him and Ruto launching an ICT and Resource Center at Sambirir Girls School in Elgeyo Marakwet.

Taking to Twitter to announce the news, Murkomen and DP Ruto stated that they launched the center at Sambir Girls using funds from the national government through the Ministry of Education and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

“We raised Ksh.18M for equipping the center by purchasing new computers to replace the obsolete ones, purchase new books and complete ongoing construction of dormitory,” wrote the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator.

In the photos, Dp William Ruto was seen launching old and outdated computers something that didn’t go down well with the internet users.
Kenyans were furious after seeing pictures of old computers at the centre placed on old tables.

Most questioned why a person of his stature could proudly go all the way just to launch old first generation computers having in mind the much hyped ‘Digital Government’ slogan used by UhuRuto during their 2013 elections.

Some questioned why they had to launch the new facility first then go on to raise funds for purchase of new computers later instead of starting with fundraising first in order to do away with confusions.

However, what most Kenyans could have missed is that the Deputy President was not really in a launching mission inside the ‘Old Lab’ but was just accessing the situation in there.

Murkomen made it clear that thy had raised 18M during the launching ceremony to be used in the purchase of new computers for the facility. Most Kenyans interpreted Murkomen’s tweet to mean that they had already purchased new computers hence the question as to why Ruto was launching the old ones.

This comes after the much-touted government schools’ laptop project failed to take off in most schools.

Instead, the government made a u-turn and said they will instead focus on launching and equipping ICT labs in schools countrywide.
