The National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders-Kenya (NCHRD-K) has condemned the killing of a University of Nairobi Student Leader, Samuel Ragira Mogaka, alias OCS- Ragira Thursday allegedly by unknown individuals at Klabu 36 market Kilimani, Nairobi.
In a statement the NCHRD-K Communications Officer, Francis Ndegwa, alleged that on Wednesday this week Ragira had raised a concern that students were being harassed and robbed of their valuables at Klabu 36 market where the UON students go for affordable meals.
The right group claims that he reported the matter to Jogoo house control room but no action was taken and instead Ragira was threatened with a ‘panga’ by the said goons.
The NCHRD-K says it is concerned with the recent killing of students by unknown people within the Campus and outside and wants action taken against the perpetrators.
The group says Ragira is the fifth student in a span of two and a half months who have been killed.
They say Ragira has been raising concerns on the possibility of the Klabu 36 market being grabbed.
Meanwhile, taxi operators in Ruiru are demanding speedy investigations into the death of one of their own that was hijacked last week only for his body to be found in Naivasha mortuary.
The operators claim police are taking long to bring to book killers of Dennis Mwangi, a taxi driver, whose remains were laid to rest Thursday.
The taxi drivers took to the streets of Ruiru town to protests the upsurge of insecurity in the area.
Local leaders are also blaming the police of laxity in the fight against crime in the area.
Ruiru MP, Simon Kingara, cautioned taxi driver to be wary of some of their customers saying such incidents have been on the increase.
They called on the police to up their game to restore public confidence.
