The Ministry of Transport is seeking to amend section 199(1) of traffic act 2012 by introducing a new sub-section that will allow the Cabinet Secretary to regulate fares charged by Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) across the county.

However, the Matatu Owners association reads mischief in the move which is aimed at protecting the public against exploitation.

Speaking during a meeting of PSV industry stakeholders and other players Matatu Owners Associations (MOA) Chair Simon Kimutai said for the plan to be achieved the government has to involve all concerned parties.

Kimutai denied claims that the industry is exploiting the public and urged the government to put in place mechanisms that will harmonize the transport sector.
