Mombasa intensifies efforts to preserve cultural heritage

Mombasa County through the department of Youth,Gender,Sports & Cultural Affairs is planning to set up a state of the art Pottery village in a bid to preserve and market the cultural heritage of Jomvu community and make it an attraction center

According to the subcounty admin, the facility shall consist of sections covering raw materials processing, modelling, manufacturing, curing, practical use of end products & market.

The pledge was made earlier today by the Department’s CECM Munywoki after paying a site visit to the residents of Jomvu Kuu Ward.

Accompanied by the CO Cultural affairs,Mr Khamis Kurichwa, Jomvu Sub County Admin Dan Abwao & the area Ward Admins, the team urged residents to exercise patience as plans are underway to conduct public participation in to gather views & opinions before implementing the plan.

This project is expected to uplift the living standards of the residents whose main activities range from pottery,decorations & fishing.

The team also visited 1 of the oldest churches in EA, Jomvu Mission Methodist Church built in 1876-where Christian religion & education began.
