How Magoha left ksh 100,000 Lagos job to work in Kenya for ksh 6,000

Education Cabinet Secretary nominee George Magoha is on Thursday before a parliamentary committee to undergo an approval hearing following his naming to replace Amina Mohamed.

House Speaker Justin Muturi who chairs the committee had informed MPs that he had formally received a message from President Uhuru Kenyatta naming the outgoing Kenya National Examination Council Chairman to head the Education docket.

Prof. George Magoha begun by introducing himself and giving a brief summary of his career: I am 67 years old, an alumni of Starehe Boys Center. I am a trained urologist and started teaching at the University of Lagos in 1979. I was approached by the Kenyan government to come lecture in 1987, left the Lagos job where I was earning Ksh.100,000 to come and earn Ksh.6,000.

Magoha: I am definitely not mechanical. I am a top grade professor. I am going to dark room possibly full of snakes, I must study the ministry of education if you approve me,I work from the backroom. I am a surgeon, I identify the problem then deal with it and leave. I don’t expect to agree with everyone, if you agree with everyone its a problem. I am happy that the President chose the ministry of education, KNEC is now under me, fully under my watch.

Magoha on his net worth: I am as naked as you want me to be. I worked in an oil rich country for 16 years I was not stupid, I did some investments.
