Why this suspect magistrate fears the prisoners he jailed

Nyeri magistrate accused of killing husband afraid of remand because of prisoners she sentenced

Nyeri Magistrate Pauline Maisy Chesang is in fear and she cannot imagine her life with the people he convicted.

On Tuesday she dropped a bombshell on everyone after pleading with the court to detain her at the Athi River Police station instead of the Machakos G.K Prison.

The troubled Magistrate who had been arraigned before a Machakos court claimed there were high chances that she could meet inmates she sent to prison who were likely to deal with her thoroughly. “If she must be remanded, I pray that she be held at Athi River Police Station and not Machakos where she is likely to encounter inmates whom she might have sentenced while serving in some stations,” her lawyer, Assa Nyakundi argued. Chesang’s lawyer went ahead to plead with the court to release her on grounds that was a serving magistrate who had diligently served in the Judiciary.

The court turned down the request holding that the accused was not in court as a Magistrate but just as a common mwananchi, or rather suspect. However, the court agreed to let her be remanded at the Athi River Police Station with her co-accused; Richard Moru, Lawrence Lempesi and Peter Maundu, sent to Machakos G.K Prison awaiting their next date in court.

The suspects will be arraigned to take plea on Tuesday, April 9 2019. As reported by TUKO.co.ke, Chesang and the other suspects were arrested following the brutal murder of lawyer Chesang at his home in Lukenya area, Machakos County, on Sunday, February 17 2019.
