A county assembly vehicle, carrying the deputy speaker, on Tuesday knocked and killed a Form Three student at Sidok in Alego Usonga sub-county, Siaya County.
Police said the girl from Sidok Secondary School died on the spot.
Deputy Speaker Andericus Oduor and his driver escaped from an angry mob that was baying for their blood.
The mob torched the Toyota Prado, reducing it to a shell.
Speaker George Okode confirmed that he had been briefed about the accident and that a vehicle had also been torched.
“It is unfortunate that a student has lost her life and our vehicles burnt. We hope the on-going investigations by the police will reveal what happened,” said Okode.
