NTSA suspends licenses of driver and conductor linked to harassing mother and child

NTSA summons matatu operators filmed harassing woman and her child

The National Transport and Safety Authority has today suspended a Meru Matatu driver and conductor linked to the incident of a mother and child who were harassed for allegedly declining to squeeze on the seats to create space for excess passengers.

NTSA made it clear that the duo have been blocked from NTSA systems and will prevent them from working for any PSV operator.

” The Authority on its part has suspended the driver’s Class A endorcement and both the conductor and driver’s PSV badges. This will prevent them from working for any PSV operator as they are blocked from the NTSA systems.” NTSA indicated in their statement

As of March 10th, the NTSA had summoned the operators after a video went viral leading to public uproar.

The PSV registration number KBU 245G was earlier intercepted by National Police Service along Embu-Meru road and taken to Meru Police Station.

NTSA has informed the public that the owner of the vehicle, Mr. Paul Kiminja has been arrested.

National Transport and Safety Authority also noted that the driver, Mr. Misheck Muriithi Gikunju and the conductor, Mr. Kevin Munene Gitau are currently at large and the Police have issued a warrant of arrest against them.

The Sacco has also been directed to present all its drivers and conductors for a road safety sensitization training where customer service and etiquette issues will be addressed.

NTSA also urged members of the public not to relient and always report such incidences.
