Mike Sonko has issued a warning to women giving birth then dumping them

A baby was rescued from a dumpsite in Nairobi’s Mukuru kwa Reuben area.

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko  issued a warning to women who giving birth then dumping their babies.

Sonko’s warning comes hours after the baby was found dumped at Mukuru kwa Reuben slums dumpsite with a rope tied around its neck.

It is alleged the mother gave birth to the baby then dumped him due to unknown reasons.

Through a face book post Governor Sonko said the baby who was not in good health was transferred to Mama Lucy hospital for treatment.

“The baby’s health was at risk and we were forced to transfer him to Mama Lucy so as to save his life. I also urge mothers who cannot be able to take care of their children to ask for help from sponsors rather than dumping them.”Sonko said

Sonko asked Kenyans to commit the baby in prayers for his health to improve

The governor also promised cash reward of Ksh. 100,000 to any person with information about the mother earlier on.

It has now emerged that a 17 year old believed to be the mother and a 31 year woman who aided her in the act have already been arrested and are awaiting to be arraigned in court.
