Ksh. 100,000 bounty as Governor Sonko warns ladies who ‘throw’ their newborns

Nairobi governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, has come out to rescue an abandoned helpless infant who was rescued by a good Samaritan in Nairobi on Sunday.

Sonko also cautioned mothers who throw away their babies after giving birth saying such cruel and evil acts will no longer be tolerated in Nairobi county anymore.

The governor was especially irked by the fact that the toddler was found with a tight rope tied on the neck, a clear indication the mother tried to strangle the little child before abandoning him.

“I have been saddened by a woman who delivered a bouncing baby boy and abandoned him after tying the baby with a tight rope on the neck, maybe trying to hang strangle him to die,” the governor posted on his Facebook page.

Luckily, the toddler was rescued by a good Samaritan and rushed to Mukuru kwa Reuben Maternity Hospital where the rope on the neck was removed and some first aid done on him. According to Sonko, the condition of the baby was not looking good, and therefore he was transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital where doctors are trying to save his life.

“The matter has been reported at Mukuru kwa Reuben Police Post Vide OB No. 32/9/3/2019. I strongly condemn this inhumane act and I’m offering a reward of KSh 100,000 to anyone who will give information that will help the police get the person behind this heinous act,” the governor said.

One of the most recent incidents was when a mother abandoned her baby at a shop near Getrude’s Children’s Hospital in Nairobi.
