The highly guarded secret in the March 9th handshake between Opposition chief Raila Odinga and Jubilee chairman Uhuru Kenyatta can be picked from recent talks made by Raila.
According to President Uhuru Kenyatta, unifying the country and winning the ongoing fight against corruption are among the key pillars of his legacy.
However, before approaching Uhuru, Raila realized the president was not going to have a legacy at the end of his second five year term but rather would leave a more divided country than he took it.
“Uhuru wanted to leave a legacy and I told him the way things are going, there will be no legacy to leave. You will leave a more divided country than the one you found.
“Raila also wants to leave a legacy. So we are not in this looking for positions in the future. We are not targeting anybody. This is bringing everybody together,” Raila said.
The two protagonists turned friends then went on to announce that their rapprochement would mean an end to the violence, bitterness and political instability that followed the disputed elections and put the economy on the path to recovery.
The now famous ‘handshake’ was a public declaration to cease all hostilities, and instead find common ground in the interest of moving the country forward economically, politically as well as socially.
The war against corruption has hit hard DP Rutos allies who have accused the investugative bodies of politicizing the war.

DP Ruto allies have taken on president Uhuru accusing him of not been open on the handshake with Raila and targeting one comminity.
While Ruto has been left to tackle the opposition chief ,DCI, DPP of playing politics with additional backup from his team.
However, Raila Odinga has eased anxiety that the handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta was planned to disappoint hopefuls seeking to keep running for enormous workplaces in the 2022 general race.
Ruto and his allies have opposed the sentiments saying there is nothing to hide as it is open to anyone that the opposition chief was brought to scuttle the party.
