Top government official arrested by flying squad

Chief Inspector of Police Kennedy Omondi has been arrested by Flying squad detectives for allegedly impersonating Immigration officers.

Omondi was arrested alongside three other suspects, Stanilus Otieno, Eddie Obwaka and Boniface Omengi.

According to the detectives, the four were nabbed while trying to extort a Ksh2 Million bribe.

The arrests followed a report made by the complainants whose passports and other documents had been confiscated by the said immigration officers

Reports indicated that the four had initially asked for a bribe of Ksh10 Million.

However, two other suspects escaped. A pistol and ammunition recovered.

Elsewhere on Thursday, DCI detectives were involved in a fierce fire exchange with a criminal gang that took place along Limuru Road.

Reports indicated that the incident caused panic among the motorist and the road was temporarily closed to other motorists.

The gang who were in a white Toyota Premio started shooting at the detectives but two of them succumbed to gunshots. Two other criminals escaped.

The detectives recovered three guns, a Glock Pistol, Czeska Phantom, Czeska Mini, more than 100 rounds of ammunition and registration number plates.
