DP Ruto yet to contend with Handshake

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga

It is not all rosy for Kenyans even as we mark the 1st handshake anniversary that yielded political ceasefire that had engulfed the country.

Many politicians with power succession ambitions are weary of the deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, due to a myriad of questions that have been raised.

Since the March 9, 2018, handshake at Harambee House, the duo have merged to promote peace, security and economic development in the country.

The handshake, however, has done more harm than good to Deputy President William Ruto who has since then felt a stranger in the Jubilee government.

On the same note, political leaders allied to the former premier say that the truce is a God sent gift that will answer Raila’s presidential bid.

According to them, the new ‘romance’ between the President and the NASA leader will go a long way in catapulting ‘Baba’ to the top seat.

The handshake has also left many Kenyans in limbo on what lies in wait for DP William Ruto.

The armistice has ironically fanned new suspicion within the ruling Jubilee party.

Some leaders allied to Ruto have read mischief in the duo’s camaraderie with many saying their handshake was meant to oust Ruto from the 2022 Presidential seat.
