On Thursday, to the surprise of many, Parliament withdrew a notice that was issued the previous year via the Water Resources Management Authority (Warma) as well as the National Environment Management Authority to demolish Seefar apartments situated in Nairobi.

Nevertheless, the two environmental bodies stated that the fate of the apartments would be decided once a consensus was held by the government’s multi-agency team.

Here’s what the committee chairman Kareke Mbiuki had to say about the whole affair:

“It is hereby ordered that the demolition notice issued for the demolition of Seefar apartments be vacated,”

Nonetheless, the committee has blamed the agencies for providing a notice without producing any technical report.

“How was the decision to demolish Seefar apartments arrived at, when this committee has not received any report recommending the same?” asked Mr Mbiuki.

The committee made the announcement on Thursday during a meeting with Environment CS Keriako Tobiko on the status of the apartments and the moratorium on forest logging

Nonetheless, the delay to demolish the controversial apartments has raised a lot of eyebrows among the public.
