Kenya Sevens team is eyeing an improved show at the sixth round of the 2018-19 World Sevens Series which gets underway in Vancouver, Canada, tomorrow.

Shujaa finished 11th in Las Vegas last weekend, a performance that earned the Paul Murunga – coached side five points.

In Las Vegas, Kenya had a poor start, suffering back-to-back defeats before picking two wins on the second day. According to captain Jacob Ojee, consistency is something must be addressed.

“All we are looking for now is consistency. That’s something we have been lacking in past tournaments,” Ojee said.

“Everyone is feeling positive and we are definitely going to push for better results. We are just waiting for the matches,” Ojee added.

Shujaa arrived in Vancouver on Monday and held their first training session a day later.

They will be seeking to replicate last season’s performance which saw them amass 19 points in Vancouver after a second place finish.

The team has been strengthened by the return of fly-half Johnstone Olindi who linked up with the rest of the squad having missed the Las Vegas tournament due to a visa hitch.

Olindi’s availability is good news for coach Murunga as the Homeboyz half-back has been impressive in his first season in the national team.

Olindi occupies the third position on the Shujaa scorer’s chart after contributing 64 points in the four tournaments he has played. These include ten tries and seven conversions. Vincent Onyalla leads the way with 77 points, seven more than second-placed Daniel Taabu.

Mean Machine captain Shadon Munoko has been drafted to the squad as a replacement for Brian Wandera who sustained an injury in Las Vegas.

Shujaa will face a herculean task in Vancouver against Fiji, Samoa and hosts Cabada in pool B.
