Sad! Wrestling is mourning the loss of yet another legend

Masked wrestling pioneer Dick Beyer The Destroyer has passed away at age 88. Famously known by wrestling fans as The Destroyer, Beyer rose to prominence in Los Angeles where he rivaled wrestling legends Freddie Blassie and Gorgeous George.

The Destroyer really made headlines for his iconic victory in a Hair vs Mask Match at the Olympic Auditorium in 1962, resulting in Gorgeous George shaving off his trademark golden locks.

His death comes after wrestling legend King Kong Bundy died at 61. Bundy, whose real name was Christopher Alan Pallies, fought Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 2.

Bundy took part in one of the shortest matches in history when he defeated SD Jones at the first Wrestlemania in just nine seconds. He also took part in the first steel cage match at the next Wrestlemania in 1986 when he faced Hogan. He retired from wrestling in 2007 after losing to Jim Duggan and moved into acting.
