Deputy president William Ruto says selective prosecution of individuals and politicization of the ongoing war on corruption will derail the exercise.
Speaking when closing the 6th annual devolution conference in Kirinyaga County the DP said those talking and pointing an accusing finger towards others have no integrity and moral authority to engage in the corruption debate.
Reacting to sentiments by the leader of the opposition Raila Odinga, Ruto said he has no problem with the former prime minister saying he has been on the forefront in advocating and supporting the handshake initiative.
He at the same time rushed out at those accusing him of harboring personal interest on the construction of dams saying as a deputy president he and the president drew the manifesto to have the Dam projects completed.
The Deputy President reiterated the president’s call on those who have information on individuals implicated in corruption to report to relevant authorities rather than spewing hae and innuendos at public gatherings.
“We have independent and competent agencies charged with fighting graft, insulated against influence or direction from any persons or authority,” said DP Ruto.
The Deputy President noted that suggestions for the creation of other layers of government are baseless.
“The debate about size and mergers is an anti-devolution narrative that is simplistic and seeks to reverse the hard-earned gains of our reform endeavours. Suggestions for the creation of other layers of Government and bureaucracy are, therefore, untenable.” Noted Ruto.
The DP lauded the success devolution saying, “The success in different aspects of devolved functions is a clear demonstration that it is not the size of the county or its population that counts but the innovation, creativity and visionary leadership of respective county governments.”
