You could be a genius if you forget, a new study shows

being forgetful unusually intelligent

Researchers from University of Toronto have conducted a study that shows how forgetting is a critical memory function.

The study suggests that memory’s goal is not to remember as many things but to make informed decisions from information stored in the brain.

Earlier, it had been perceived that forgetting is a brain inability to store information. Contrary to the earlier belief, the new study suggests that there is a brain mechanism that helps in memory loss and are very different from those that store memory.

Forgetting was found in the study to be important as it helps to do away with outdated information.
