Wife Charlotte and six-year-old step-daughter Lola of former Liverpool and Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers were disturbed as the intruders entered their house in the Bearsden suburb of the Scottish city. Rodgers’ terrified family had to barricade themselves into their bathroom after burglars broke into the Leicester manager’s Glasgow home, according to reports on Wednesday.
Sky Sports News reported the thieves burst into the bedroom as the mother and daughter cowered on the bed. They fled to a bathroom while the intruders took a number of boxes believed to contain Rodgers’ belongings from his office at Celtic’s training. Rodgers was away from the house after recently starting his new job as boss of English Premier League side Leicester after two and a half years at Celtic.
The stolen boxes are said to held most of the medals Rodgers won during his successful spell with the Scottish giants. It was reported Rodgers’ family were shaken, but unharmed during the break-in. “At around 01:55 on Wednesday 6 March, police received a report of a break-in at a property in Bearsden. No one was injured in the incident but a number of items were stolen from the property.” a Police Scotland spokeswoman told the BBC. Police added that an investigation had begun and inquiries were ongoing.
Meanwhile, current Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp received some good news on Tuesday as he learned that Egypt will spare star man Mohamed Salah from international duty this month. The Pharaohs play Niger on March 22 in a Africa Cup of Nations’ qualifying dead rubber before travelling to Nigeria for a friendly on March 26.
The two matches would have seen Salah travel over 9000 miles but fortunately for the Reds Egypt boss Javier Aguirre has decided not call him up and allow him to rest. Liverpool sit one point behind Premier League leaders Manchester City with nine games remaining and Salah will be key to their hopes of ending a near 30-year wait for a league title.
The Merseyside club face Burnley at home and Fulham away before the international break and will be confident of picking up maximum points and they will be delighted that Mohammad Salah will then be allowed to relax for two weeks before they turn onto the home straight.
