A video of a student at the Meru National Polytechnic filming herself while taking suicidal pills went viral.
Netizens were shocked after watching the last moments of Fridah Makena, who sent her friends goodbye messages.
Makena threw the white pills down her throat, forcing them down with water she had held in a tumbler and moving away from the camera when she finished swallowing them.
According to various reports, Makena committed suicide after her boyfriend, who reportedly studies at Cooperative University in Nairobi, cheated on her.
Emotional Messages
In a message to a friend, Makena stated: “I am sorry but I can’t take it anymore. Kelvoh (Fridah’s boyfriend) is the last thing I wanted to lose. There’s no life without him. Suicide was the last thing I ever thought of but I give up. All the best and please don’t miss me.”
A few minutes to 2pm last Friday, Makena messaged another friend telling him she did not want to live a second longer.
The friend consoled Makena, telling her she would overcome the hurdles and asked where she was to which the deceased replied: “I think I can’t. I have reached the end”.
The Meru National Polytechnic Dean of Students confirmed Makena’s death in a notice to the institution’s fraternity.
Makena’s dating story
Friends said that Makena would frequently visit her boyfriend at the Cooperative University.
They claimed that what hurt the young beautiful girl was not the cheating but the fact that the boyfriend did it openly and made sure that she knew it.
