Sorrow and despair as Form four boy is struck to death by lightening

Goseta Boys in Kwanza experienced first hand the horror of losing someone to a lightening strike. A Form Four student was on Monday evening struck to death by lightning.

“We had just left class and were playing in the field when it started raining. Some of our colleagues took shelter under a tree and that is when lightning struck,” said a student who survived.

Five seriously injured students were taken to Kitale County hospital. The school Principal Hudson Wasike, confirmed four of them were fighting for their lives in hospital.

Dennis Nanyingi, a doctor, said they received five students but one died. “The other four are responding to treatment and are in stable condition. Fifteen more were brought at around 9pm complaining of severe headache. They were treated and discharged,” Dr Nanyingi said.

Journalists covering the happenings at the hospital were roughed up by teachers and their equipment damaged. Some were attacked by the teachers and barred from taking any photos.

It took the intervention of police for the journalists to work.

This comes barely a few days after lightening struck St Brigid’s Nangwe Girls in Bungoma injuring 60 students.
