Ethiopia’s prime minister, Abiy Ahmed with his Somalian counterpart Mohamed Farmaajo on Tuesday jetted into Nairobi, where the former is expected to lead efforts to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Somali Head of State jetted to the country on the evening of Tuesday, March 5 and was accompanied by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

While no official communication has been issued from the Foreign Affairs ministry, reliable sources state that the leaders are in the country to try and arrive at a consencus regarding the contentious 62,000 square miles triangle of disputed maritime territory in the Indian Ocean.

It is also understood that the intervention of Ahmed is one of the many attempts made by the Kenyan government to try to reach an agreement with Somalia. In February, Somalia ambassador to Kenya Mohamoud Ahmed Nur jetted to Somalia for what the foreign affairs ministry described as “urgent consultations”.
