Maurizio Sarri planning Chelsea pre-season despite ongoing uncertainty over his future

Planning pre-season: Sarri has held talks over Chelsea's summer plans

Maurizio Sarri has confirmed he has held talks with the Chelsea hierarchy about the club’s pre-season plans despite his future in the club still being in doubt.

Sarri’s position as Chelsea manager has come under intense scrutiny in recent months, especially after heavy League defeats to Bournemouth and Manchester City.

However, successive League wins over Tottenham and Fulham have eased the strain and Sarri revealed to Sky Sport Italia at the weekend that he has spoken to the hierarchy about next season.

When asked by Standard Sport today to clarify what this meant, he replied: “We were talking about the problem of the next pre-season. So we were trying to organise in the best way the next pre-season.”

It is understood that Chelsea are looking to have a two-week training camp in Europe before flying to Japan.

They have yet to confirm who they will play there but one team will be a Japanese club and they have held talks about a glamour tie with Barcelona.

As Chelsea prepare to face Dynamo Kiev in the last 16 of the Europa League, Sarri says his future is secondary to the club’s attempts to win the trophy.

When asked if he is confident he will still be at Chelsea next term, he added: “It’s not a big problem. The problem are the results. All the rest is not important at this moment.
