Manchester United confirm Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s contract status

One of the big stories on Wednesday morning is whether Man United’s interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still under contract at Molde.

Solskjaer left Norwegian side Molde to replace Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

The United boss has this week raised suggestions he’s going to be the new permanent manager at the Theatre of Dreams.

Speaking on the Fotballklubben podcast, Solskjaer suggested his contract at Molde is over:


I’m not sure how it works. I think the contract is expired and that I’m now under contract with Manchester United.

I think we need a new contract there [at Molde].

Molde have since reacted to Solskjaer’s statement.

Molde CEO Øystein Neerland has spoken to local paper VG.

Neerland has insisted that OGS remains under contract with the club:


Ole Gunnar is now employed at Manchester United and is scheduled to return to Molde after the season.

Neerland also confirmed that Molde would not need to renegotiate their deal when Solskjaer if he returns to the club.

Molde’s compensation package

When Solskjaer got the job at Man United, reports circulated about how much the Red Devils would need to pay Molde if they chose to give him the full-time position.

The likes of the Mirror reported that Man United would need to pay Molde 8 million pounds.

Moreover, it was revealed that United paid Molde 1.8 million pounds to hire Solskjaer until the end of the season.
