Hundreds stranded in JKIA as workers strike

Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Nairobi’s Jomo Kentyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Wednesday morning following workers strike.

The morning flights to and from the airport were disrupted as the aviation workers began their strike with JKIA bound flights being diverted to other airports.

Sources indicated that the workers grounded all flights since 3 am leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

This is despite Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) declaring the strike suspended.

The Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) Secretary General Moses Ndiema had yesterday issued a warning that the strike will go on even as the Employment and Labour Relations Court suspended the strike paving way for talks.

KAA management had tweeted that the strike will not take place assuring passengers of service at the airports.

The workers are also opposing the merger plan between KAA and Kenya Airways (KQ).

A Rwanda Air plane that was supposed to pick up passengers for a summit in Rwanda was forced to leave without the passengers.
