The Radical retired Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Reverend Timothy Njoya has slammed out affluent politicians and those from rich families saying they were beneficiaries of corruption.

The renowned activist who converted the pulpit to a platform of championing for social space and political reforms during his heydays in the 80s and 90s said most politicians currently talking tough on corruption had benefited from the vice in the past.

Reverend Timothy Njoya said politicians from rich and powerful families were beneficiaries of the graft.

Wednesday, March 6, Njoya sarcastically poured cold water on tough anti-graft utterances by key politicians who assembled in Kirinyaga for the sixth devolution conference.

Notably, President Uhuru Kenyatta called on politicians to desist from meddling in operations of institutions mandated to fight corruption and dared those associating him and the first family with theft of public resources to report him to Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

In the wittingly crafted tweet, the author of We the People insinuated most of the affluent and powerful leaders who condemned corruption were hypocritical and had no moral authority to speak against the vice now when they had perpetrated it in the past.

“The who is who in Kirinyaga meeting are condemning amateur corruption yet cannot be held to account for old corruption. Or did they get super rich by hard work, invention and merit?” posed the cleric. Retired Reverend Timothy Njoya said most affluent politicians had in one way or another benefited from corruption.

The theologian was categorical that it was nothing less of a circus for political leaders to focus on recent corrupt deals and turn a blind eye to initial cases which had set the stage for current pillage.

“They are singling out the new corrupt to sanitize their old corruption,” Njoya argued. Njoya’s sentiments come in the wake of the church taking a lukewarm position on the corruption situation in the country with the war taking a political stance. The cleric at one point said Uhuru’s handshake with Opposition leader Raila Odinga was for their individual benefit.
