Huge Fire Razes Down Properties in Kangemi

A raging fire broke out, on Tuesday, at Mountain View right next to Kangemi flyover along Waiyaki Way, Nairobi.

According to witnesses at the location, the break out led to a severe snarl-up along the highway especially since the slum borders a road construction site.

Response teams reportedly arrived at the scene of the fire and began putting out the inferno.

It was, however, unclear what the cause of the fire was or what amount of damage it caused at the time of publishing.

In a viral video, household items including furniture and utensils were rescued and moved to safety.

Some witnesses were, however, not impressed by the county government’s response since it took an hour for fire engines to arrive at the scene of the incident.

“I’m really dissatisfied on how the county government of Nairobi respond to the fire break out today next to residents of Kangemi stage. It’s after an hour that they sent their fire fighting engine when most property had been burn,” posted a user.

This comes roughly a month after another fire razed down Kibagare slums of the satellite town of Kangemi.

According to sources, the fire started at Kibagare slum near the flyover on the Loresho side.

Firefighters contained the fire but sources revealed that dozens of properties had been razed to the ground.
