How Safe Is Our Society? Gang rape, Murder Suspect Released

A suspect in the Kericho gang rape and murder case involving a family in Litein, Bureti Sub County has been released on a Ksh.1million bond.

Jack Ibrahim Omenda, 32, together with others not before a Kericho court, was charged with two counts of robbery with violence.

In the first count, Omenda, was charged that on the nights of February 19 and 20, 2019, jointly with others not before the court, at Samutet village in Litein location in Bureti sub-county, while armed with dangerous weapons, robbed Anna Chepgetich Chepkwony, 73, of her Nokia mobile phone valued at Ksh.5,399 and then killed her.

In the second count, the accused was charged with robbing the woman’s husband, Richard Cheruiyot Chepkwony of his Nokia mobile phone valued at Ksh.2,200 and hit him with a metal bar on the head.

He denied the charges before resident Magistrate Bernard Rugut who ordered the accused to be released on a bond of Ksh.1million with a surety of a similar amount.

The case will be mentioned on March 15, 2019.

The suspect is one of the four members of a gang who broke into the home of 78-year-old Richard Chepkwony and killed his wife Anna and raped their three granddaughters aged 20, 16 and 11 years.

According to police sources, the accused was arrested after being positively identified by the three rape victims.
