Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has moved to assure Deputy President William Ruto of Central Kenya support in his 2022 presidential bid.

Waititu said the populous region will stand with the DP despite a lot of allegations being levelled against him by his detractors.

Speaking on Monday during a funeral service that was also attended by the Jubilee deputy party leader, the governor noted residents in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard were eager to fulfil the promise reportedly made to Ruto over his 2022 ambition.

“It is in black and white, and we will not change our stand on the promise we made prior to the 2013 elections,” Waititu said.

In an apparent reference to Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who has also declared interest in the race to State House, the county boss asked residents to ignore him “since we know who will be our next president”.

Waititu urged Ruto not to allow politicians to put a wedge between him and the president but instead rally behind his boss to ensure the war on graft is won and the Big Four Agenda achieved.

“Jubilee has a manifesto for this country which we must continue to implement. We must not be kept busy by people who are not after transforming Kenya,” he said.

The governor spoke during the burial of Mama Margaret Wangechi Irungu, the mother of Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata in Kiharu Constituency.
