Blow for Arsenal as Star Defender says he won’t renew contract

According to Kicker, Sokratis has announced that he won’t be signing a new contract at Arsenal. The Greece international is already 30 years old and by the time his current deal runs out, he will already have turned 33.

“I’ll be 31 this summer, I have two years on my contract with Arsenal, then I would like to play in the US or in Asia. Or Greece, in the team of my city.”

Sokratis is disgustingly underrated and overlooked— Elliot (@LacaSweat) March 2, 2019

The centre-back has played a vital role this season in Unai Emery’s system by being the most consistent centre-back at the club. Following his great recent performances along with Laurent Koscielny and Bernd Leno, fans have started to believe in the defence again, even though Arsenal have the worst defensive record in the top 7.

Really warming to Sokratis. Proper shithouse of a defender who refuses to be bullied. Think having players like Sokratis is so important when the chips are down or we’re up against it in a game. If we can keep Kos fit & Mustafi away from team, top 4 is up for grabs #AFC— John (@Johnboy270783) March 4, 2019

The defender has featured in 28 games this season, scoring and assisting two goals each.
