Reprieve for former senator Gwendo as court reviews her sentence

Former Senator Joy Gwendo to pay Ksh.660K fine or spend one year in jail

Former senator Joy Gwendo was reprieved after the court reviewed her sentence.

Now, the former senator will spend one year in jail or pay a fine of Sh660K.

Gwendo was found guilty of abusing her office in her time as a senator.

β€œOn the 23rd day of October 2016 at Chiga Parish in Kisumu East within Kisumu County used her position as a State officer to confer herself Ksh.2,226,800 the property of Kisumu East Cotton Growers Cooperative Society through Kivali Development Initiative,” read the charge in parts.

In the former ruling, the judge had sentenced her without giving her an option for a fine.
