After scoring in the 1-2 win over Fulham, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed that Jorginho is one of the ‘most important in Europe’ in his position and Mateo Kovacic has been instrumental in covering for the Italy international.A
Jorginho has been a deep-lying playmaker at Chelsea occupying the defensive midfield position hence freeing N’golo Kante and pushing him further forward on the pitch.
His all-around play was much improved in the win over Fulham as well with a lot more direct passing, finding Gonzalo Higuain and Willian several times down the flanks with some incisive passing to the forwards.
Speaking after the win over Fulham, Sarri revealed that Jorginho is one of the most important in Europe in his position, “I’m very, very happy for him because today he scored. But my opinion about Jorginho is the same. He’s a very great player, one of the most important in Europe in that position.
“Of course, for him, it’s not easy a first season in this football with a new team. Today he was really very tired in the last part of the match, and we were lucky that [Mateo] Kovacic could come on and do really very well. In that position, we have some problems. We are trying in training with Kovacic there. The answer from him today was really very good.”
